Thought on the BBC video
Thomas - I truly believe that the whole try each side for three days and then pick is a great idea because it gives people a taste of both worlds. It gives you an amazing understanding on what you would prefer for your future and make a solid effort for it.
Taryn - I enjoyed this video and I think that I already do what they are recommending.. I write lists and weigh the pros and cons of each decision.
I also try to make the best choice to serve happiness overall.
Plus I have little people's happiness to consider.
Susie - That's true u don't need to own your dream car just something that's in good condition and drives well....if need be it can also be the color that u want in a vehicle lol
Noreena - I like that idea, I had never thought of it that way before. I usually just stress about how to make the perfect decision and so maybe now I can change that and learn to be happy with the decisions I do make. I also thought the strategy for making a decision was pretty neat.
Jacqueline - That you have to think very wise about decision making, what’s your plan and what’s the consequences of any decision you might make. How does its affects others.
Elsie - I like the video and want to try writing down my decision making plan and try to reach my goal.

Strategies you use and are willing to share
Thomas - i usually toss a coin or ask someone else to pick for small decisions. However, for bigger ones i pin the idea up on my wall for three days to a week and let it really sink in before making my final choice. However, the point system in the video sounds like amazing idea!
Taryn - For decision making I.....
Jacqueline - 1. Distract self, 2. Pretend helping others give advice, 3. Identify the problem choose the best action
Noreena - I generally just view the pros and cons and ask family what they think (to get a different point of view).

Taryn - For decision making I.....
- Figure out the issue
- Pros and cons list
- Financial consequences
- Writing out an actual hypothetical plan
- Happiness overall
- 5 year goal setting helps me with this cause I know where I want to be but not how to get there. So I see if my decision will help me get to my 5 year goal.
- I also try to give myself time to make the decision, when I can anyways.

1 Go to abcmoneymatters.ca (link is just below) and click on Learners
2 Scroll down and click on RESP's and Other Ways to Save (note this is a PDF workbook not an online course)
3 On page 2 you will notice we are going to learn more about Registered Education Savings Plan, and the Canada Learning Bond and Canada Education Savings Grants available from the Canadian government.
4 On page 2 in the green box you can identify the difference between a savings account and a registered saving plan.
5 On page 3 find a self-assessment that is worth doing
6 On page 5 read about Tenzin and Riley and read the key to saving on the bottom of the page. * (this is the first email question - send me an email and let me know if you can do it - send your thoughts via email).
7 The next pages involve group work and we will skip them. Look at page 8 and read one of the great ideas for carving out a piece of your paycheck to give you some financial options.
8 On page 10 we are trying to put a strategy together so someone can put $50 per month in a savings or investing plan. * ( this is the second email question send me your best idea for getting this done.)
9 All of the pages have good information but the next page with must have ideas is page 14. Learn about RESP, RRSP and TFSA these are three registered classifications of saving and investments with slightly different aspects to them. Think about the differences as you will be asked to use them later in this assignment.
10 Read pages 16, 17 and 18 and learn about saving for your children's education.
11 On page 24 read about the TFSA
12 On page 24 find information on the RRSP
13 On page 27 take note of how much money a person has to retire on at age 65 if they put $50 in an investment each month and earn 5% interest as compared to someone who starts the same size savings plan when they are 35 years old.
14 Not everyone wants to put 10% of their money into a savings account. Some couples have put 40% of their income into investments and retired at an early age. If you want to learn more about these concepts click on the About F.I.R.E button below.
15 Here is the big assignment. Let's pretend that you are getting $5000 from a benefactor and you are required to use it for long term investments. You have an emergency account already so you decide to invest this in long term investments for 20 years or more and you could use it to retire, or pay for something important like that yacht or for your child's education. For a very simple selection of options visit the Tangerine banks investment page (link provided) or use your own banks information. Send me a full paragraph by email that explains which categories you will use (TFSA and or RESP and or RRSP). You may even find a product that you like for instance you may like the idea of a GIC and decide to keep it in an RRSP or a TFSA. Spend some time researching your options and develop a strategy and explain if you will put the money in a TFSA, RRSP or RESP.
Send me a paragraph that explains your plan for investing the $5000 for 20 years.
